L.A. Friends

It was supposed to rain today but as I look out my El Segundo window it's a beautiful sunny day, blue sky, puffy clouds and a wonderful ocean breeze floating in.

I'm from St. Louis. For years all I ever heard was "don't go to L.A., it's mean, it's cruel, it's full of crime, you'll starve there, you'll die, blah blah blah blah". Just like todays weather forecast, sometimes the hype is wrong!

I just want to say, so far, L.A. has not lived up to all the negative hype I heard while spending most of my life in St. Louis. Sheesh, it's not exactly like St. Louis does not have it's own share of crime, a lady was shot and killed at the mall just five minutes from my former home in West County.

In fact, every day I ask myself why I did not move here sooner. I love this town. I should have moved here years ago. Everywhere, there are great musicians, great entertainment, cool cars, gorgeous women, the ocean and unlimited opportunity.

All that aside, the most amazing thing is the people I've met and the friends I've made. The following is just a partial list, I'm sure I'll be revisiting this topic again and again, as there are so many amazing folks in my new West Coast life.

Of course I'm most grateful for my wonderful friend and music companion Mary. I could be anywhere so long as we get to play together.

Special thanks to Tim Jeck for recognizing Mary and I are normal. Dude, you never need to apologize for anything, we love ya. Party on, any hour, any volume, it's all good!

A special thank you to Randy and Merlot Mike at Texas Loosey's, you guys are awesome and feel like old friends.

Thanks to all for the kind words about our music and an extra special thank you to the master of ceremonies, the man who's keeping live music alive in the South Bay, the one and only South Bay Bob.

Peace

Real life in music

Have you ever had your life jerked out from under you? Camped in a
friends basement or a skank motel while you struggled to figure out
the next move? Everything you had is gone and all you've got is the
sound of an air conditioner grinding in the darkness while you wait
for the sun to peak around the edges of the curtains? I've been to
this place and it's not good. This is what our song, "Destroy The
Night" is all about.

Mary wrote most of the words with no idea how it would resonate and
affect me. She had no idea how they would connect so deeply inside me.
The moment she showed them to me I was totally drawn in and we did not
stop working on it until we had it mapped out and a scratch recording
was down.

Fortunately for me, existing, simultaneously, right next to the worst
part of my life, was, what would become the BEST part of my life.
Sometime soon, we'll write a song about that too. One to give hope to
those who don't know things can really turn around quick.

In the meantime, give Destroy The Night" a listen (it's on our Music
page). It's real life in music.

If you're in a tough life situation don't give up. Something amazing
is right around the corner. You just gotta wait til morning destroys
the darkness.

Peace

Yummy Fresh Delicious New Videos!!!!

Ooooooooh, The Webmaster has been busy this Memorial Day morning....

If you haven't seen them yet, omg, check out the new videos on our Video page.  Now you can hear a good variety of what we love to do:  play rock and blues music.

I am totally in love with Mark's Hoochie-Coochie man...    blues at its best.

And speaking of blues, check out Rock Me.  What a great song.

Okay, enjoy your holiday, remember those who have fought and given the ultimate gift to keep America free, and take a moment to enjoy great music.

Follow your dreams.

New Website - Enjoy the Ride

We're very excited about the new website look.

It's all about the music, which is our #1 passion.  But allowing you a glimpse into the other side of the Mark King Band is part of sharing who we are.  We sincerely hope you enjoy the ride.

And remember, Alice had no idea what she would find in the rabbit hole, but she took it all in with the right frame of mind.  "Curiouser and curiouser..."

Follow your dreams.

Just Do It

Hi, it's Mary King of the Mark King Band.  Welcome to the band blog!

Why the "Just Do It" title, you're wondering...

I am a procrastinator.  I like to study all options before I act...   HOWEVER, in many situations in life you just have to stop thinking and start doing.

SOOOOOO that's my objective here.

No more thinking about whether I should Twitter or Forum or Facebook or Blog or whatever.  I am now blogging.  Yes, you can find me on Twitter as MaryKingofLA.  But Ashton Kucher is kicking my ass regarding finding relevant (?) thinks to spew every 20 minutes.  Sorry, I can't do it.

Instead, you're going to start seeing a plethora of posts from me about what we do:  band stuff.

Enjoy!!!
